6th August 2010:
Last week Callum Walters played against all the welsh county sides in the under 13's “Welsh Counties Championship“.
On Monday his Mid-Glamorgan team played against the tournament favourites Gwent at St Asaph’s CC.
Gwent have 7 current welsh squad members.
In this game Mid-Glamorgan were bowled out for 87.
Gwent struggled to reach the total and our Callum had 5 over’s and took 2 wickets for 16 runs.
On Tuesday Mid-Glamorgan played against North East Wales at Brymbo CC. Mid-Glamorgan batted first and scored 213 for 6 off 40 over’s. Our Callum scored 72 before being run out.
North East Wales Were then bowled out for 168. An excellent win.
On Wednesday Mid-Glamorgan played against Carmarthenshire at Northop CC. This game was to decide who was coming runner up in the group because Carmarthen had also lost to Gwent.
Carmarthen won the toss and decided to bat. Unfortunately they were bowled out for 59. Callum had two wickets. Mid-Glamorgan reached the total with the loss of two wickets. Callum had 5 not out.
After the group stages the two group winners Gwent and West Glamorgan played each other - West Glamorgan scored 187 off 40 over’s and with Gwent strolling on 156 for 0 they collapsed to 180 for 9 and got home in the last over.
Mid-Glamorgan played in the 3rd and 4th play off against Pembrokeshire at Connays Quay CC.
Mid-Glamorgan batted first and scored 167 for 7 off 40 over’s. Callum scored 48. Pembrokeshire started well and it was anybodies game at drinks with Pembrokeshire on 108 for 3 off 20 over’s.
30 over’s gone and 128 for 4 was their total. Callum then came on to bowl with Iwan Jones of Maesteg Celtic CC and they both took Pembrokeshire apart. Callum had closing figures of 5 over’s 3 wickets for 18 runs.
A good win to finish 3rd in the tournament.
Well done Callum Walters.

Pontardulais C.C. has accepted the invitation to become members of the South Wales Premier Cricket League. The inaugural membership of the new Premier League is confirmed as:
Ammanford C.C., Cardiff C.C., Newport C.C., Pontardulais C.C., Port Talbot Town C.C., Sully Centurions C.C., St. Fagans C.C., Swansea C.C., Usk C.C. and Ynysygerwn C.C.

22nd September 2009.
From tonight's Evening Post. Written by Tony Poole.

The new ECB South Wales Premier Cricket League is building momentum.

Four of the five South Wales Cricket Association clubs who were sent invitations earlier in the month have already accepted.

Champions Ammanford, Port Talbot Town, Swansea and Ynysygerwn have all given the new league the thumbs-up, though, the fifth club, Pontardulais, have still to respond, and they have until September 30 to do so.

Unofficially, Bont made it known last season that they were opposed to the new league, which is also operating a dedicated second XI competition.

But if Bont turn down the invitation, it will then go to last season's sixth-placed SWCA finishers Mumbles.

Last year's top five finishers along with their eastern counterparts in the South Wales League (SWL) are combining to form the South Wales Premier League.

Down the years many attempts have been made to bring the eastern and western clubs together, and this latest move has now reached fruition.

Glamorgan County Cricket Club are underwriting the league, and preliminary talks are underway to secure a league sponsor.

Glamorgan have 22 players to allocate to the 10-strong membership, and during the winter team manager Matthew Maynard will contact the clubs to establish their preference regarding batsmen or bowlers.

Each year the champion clubs from the two feeder leagues will have the chance to gain promotion provided they reach ECB ground criteria standards.

Although the SWL didn't complete their fixtures until September 12, three clubs — champions Cardiff, Newport and Sully — have already given the new league their blessing.

The other SWL top-five finishers who have received invitations are Usk and St Fagans, and both are believed to be keen to become founder members.

"Things are going to plan, and we are looking forward to some mouth- watering fixtures next year," said South Wales Premier League secretary Stephen P. Jones.

He added: "We still await confirmation from Pontardulais, but to have seven out of 10 clubs already on board for next season is pleasing.''

21st September 2009.
Lyndon Lovett had his hip operation last week. He is now home and recovering well. We all wish him well.

The "Senior Presentation" evening is being held at the club on the 17th October 2009. Entertainment by the Brass Monkey's.

The "Junior Presentation" evening is being held at the club on the 9th October 2009.

The "Annual SWCA Presentation Dinner" is being held on Friday the 2nd October 2009 at the Manor Park Country House, Clydach with guest speaker Paul Nixon (Kent CCC, Leicestershire CCC and England).
Paul Nixon: (Profile found on internet)
Born - Carlisle, Cumbria, October 21, 1970

Joined - Leicestershire 1989

Role - Club Captain, Left Hand Batsman, Wicketkeeper

Family - Wife - Jen

Teams Represented - Leicestershire, Kent, England

Honours - England - Commonwealth Bank Series, World Cup 2007; England Tour to Pakistan and Sri Lanka 2000-01; England A Tour to India and Bangladesh 1994-95

Highlight of Career - Playing in the World Cup for England, winning the Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia; Twenty20 Cup triumphs at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge

Players Admired - David Gower, Ian Botham, Ian Healy, Viv Richards

Relaxations - Watching England rugby

The experienced wicket-keeper had a fruitful 2008 campaign, finishing just 46 runs short of a richly deserved 1,000 for the Championship season. He was consistent with bat and gloves in all competitions.

Nixon led the team with great enthusiasm after an eventful 2007, where he took the reigns from Darren Robinson halfway through.

Nixon knew that 2007 was going to be busy when awarded a benefit, but he could never imagined it was going to turn out as memorable as it did.

The reward for his outstanding performances in 2006, both behind the stumps and with the bat, was an England call-up for the Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia and his part in that triumph led to him going to the World Cup.

Now in his second spell with Leicestershire, he helped the Club to win the Championship twice in his initial period at Grace Road and more recently played a key role in the club's two Twenty20 Cup triumphs.

Still going strong, Nixon recently made his 1,000th run in Twenty20 cricket for the club during the defeat at Nottinghamshire Outlaws. 15th September 2009 - Port Talbot Town C.C. has accepted the invitation to become members of the South Wales Premier Cricket League.

12th September 2009 - Ynysygerwn C.C. has accepted the invitation to become members of the South Wales Premier Cricket League.

4th September 2009 - Swansea C.C. has accepted the invitation to become members of the South Wales Premier Cricket League

3rd September 2009 - Ammanford C.C. has accepted the invitation to become members of the South Wales Premier Cricket League

31st August 2009.

12th July 2010:
Big day for the club yesterday. The visit of first division Ynystawe CC to Maesteg in the League Cup quarter final and two of our junior cricketer's representing Wales.

Unfortunately we lost the quarter final game but put up a very good honest performance against a very good Ynystawe side.
Maesteg batted first and after a bad start where we were 3 for 13, completed the innings on 216 for 9 with Luke O'Connor scoring a magic 85 and Jeff Watkin (46) playing another quality innings.
For Ynystawe P. Discome finished with figure of 4 for 57 and G. Prydderch 3 for 25.
Ynystawe started well and got to 71 without loss then Maesteg with some grit and determination got back into the game with some honest bowling and exceptional fielding. Two outstanding players of note for Ynystawe Andrew Beasley (67) and Captain Jonathan Hubschid (77 not out) again stood out and lead the way home in the 44th over (217 for 5) and not without a fright. Wicket's were shared between Michael Bailey (1 for 32), Lloyd Ham (1 for 42) Luke O'Connor (1 for 37) and Jeff Watkin (2 for 35). A genuine good performance against a quality outfit. Lesson's learnt and a good day was had by all.

The two juniors representing Wales were Callum Walters and Steffan Roberts.
Callum played against Cornwall under 13's and they won by 9 wickets. Callum scored a brisk 16.
Cornwall 92 all out. Wales 93 for 1.
Steffan played against Worchester under 12's and they won by 6 wickets.
Steffan scored and excellent 32.
Great news for the club. Maesteg CC are very proud of both of these youngsters.

Jack Thorpe Yon scored a brilliant 102.
Gloucester were all out for 179 a good win for Wales.

A strong and confident Hampshire team won the toss and decided to bat first. Hampshire lost a few early wickets but in the end did well to score 176 all out in the 44th over of the 45 over’s game.
Wickets were spread around with Callum Evans of Gowerton getting three wickets.
Wales batted very aggressively with Donald 68 and Thorpe Yon 62. Our Callum batted number 5 and was still there in the end with 6 not out. A good win for Wales.

Both senior Saturday game's cancelled due to rain but Sunday there was two outstanding wins for the club.
The under 13's beat Porthcawl CC in the preliminary round of the Les Sharp Cup. Excellent performance !
The seniors beat Llangenych CC, a first division team with quality in every position.
Llangenych won the toss and decided to bat. Lloyd Ham, playing his first game for the seniors bowled lively and had figures of 2 for 26. He opened the bowling with the experienced all-rounder Jonny Davies who finished with 4 for 15. The highlight of the bowling was young Luke O'Connor who bowled exceptionally well under the guidance of the "brave" club chairman (Bet he doesn't play touch rugby before the game again) Geraint Jones, who instigated the STRAIGHT bowling encouraging at every opportunity - "wicket to wicket Lukey". Luke finished with wonderful figures of 9 over’s, 7 maidens and only 4 runs going off the bat. Wonderful match winning performance. Shame he didn't take a wicket !
The other two bowlers were Martin Wilkshire 1 for 27 and Leighton O'Connor 3 for 32.
Many supporters from both teams watched this game and they were all impressed with Maesteg's fielding especially the young Jonny Hood and wicket keeper Michael Lambert who took two catches with ease.
Llangenych finished with a total of 113 all out.
With Lloyd Wilkshire working, Andrew King who is no stranger to opening, started the innings with Luke O'Connor. Andrew and Luke batted with confidence and reached Llangenych's score after 28 over. A great batting performance and a very good win against a strong Llangenych team. Andrew finished 51 not out and Luke 42 not out. Captain Martin Wilkshire was very happy with his team and found out that the next opponent's in the cup are Ynystawe - Home.
After a short stay at the Llangenych CC club house the evening was spend back at the club house celebrating two engagements to slow romantic songs on the juck box and of course one Elvis song from our Les.
Apart from the win - One of the highlight's of the day was club legend Lyndon Lovett showing the club Chairman Geraint Jones an ex Maesteg Quins scrum half how to pass left handed. Next week it's the dive pass.

Remember the deposit's are required for the club tour. £10.00
