28th September 2009.

Pontarddulais C.C. has accepted the invitation to become members of the South Wales Premier Cricket League. The inaugural membership of the new Premier League is confirmed as:
Ammanford C.C., Cardiff C.C., Newport C.C., Pontarddulais C.C., Port Talbot Town C.C., Sully Centurions C.C., St. Fagans C.C., Swansea C.C., Usk C.C. and Ynysygerwn C.C.

22nd September 2009.
From tonight's Evening Post. Written by Tony Poole.

The new ECB South Wales Premier Cricket League is building momentum.

Four of the five South Wales Cricket Association clubs who were sent invitations earlier in the month have already accepted.

Champions Ammanford, Port  Talbot  Town, Swansea and Ynysygerwn have all given the new league the thumbs-up, though, the fifth club, Pontarddulais, have still to respond, and they have until September 30 to do so.

Unofficially, Bont made it known last season that they were opposed to the new league, which is also operating a dedicated second XI competition.

But if Bont turn down the invitation, it will then go to last season's sixth-placed SWCA finishers Mumbles.

Last year's top five finishers along with their eastern counterparts in the South Wales League (SWL) are combining to form the South Wales Premier League.

Down the years many attempts have been made to bring the eastern and western clubs together, and this latest move has now reached fruition.

Glamorgan County Cricket Club are underwriting the league, and preliminary talks are underway to secure a league sponsor.

Glamorgan have 22 players to allocate to the 10-strong membership, and during the winter team manager Matthew Maynard will contact the clubs to establish their preference regarding batsmen or bowlers.

Each year the champion clubs from the two feeder leagues will have the chance to gain promotion provided they reach ECB ground criteria standards.

Although the SWL didn't complete their fixtures until September 12, three clubs — champions Cardiff, Newport and Sully — have already given the new league their blessing.

The other SWL top-five finishers who have received invitations are Usk and St Fagans, and both are believed to be keen to become founder members.

"Things are going to plan, and we are looking forward to some mouth- watering fixtures next year," said South Wales Premier League secretary Stephen P. Jones.

He added: "We still await confirmation from Pontarddulais, but to have seven out of 10 clubs already on board for next season is pleasing.''

21st September 2009.

The "Annual SWCA Presentation Dinner" is being held on Friday the 2nd October 2009 at the Manor Park Country House, Clydach with guest speaker Paul Nixon (Kent CCC, Leicestershire CCC and England).

Paul Nixon: (Profile found on internet)
Born - Carlisle, Cumbria, October 21, 1970

Joined - Leicestershire 1989

Role - Club Captain, Left Hand Batsman, Wicketkeeper

Family - Wife - Jen

Teams Represented - Leicestershire, Kent, England

Honours - England - Commonwealth Bank Series, World Cup 2007; England Tour to Pakistan and Sri Lanka 2000-01; England A Tour to India and Bangladesh 1994-95

Highlight of Career - Playing in the World Cup for England, winning the Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia; Twenty20 Cup triumphs at Edgbaston and Trent Bridge

Players Admired - David Gower, Ian Botham, Ian Healy, Viv Richards

Relaxations - Watching England rugby

The experienced wicket-keeper had a fruitful 2008 campaign, finishing just 46 runs short of a richly deserved 1,000 for the Championship season. He was consistent with bat and gloves in all competitions.

Nixon led the team with great enthusiasm after an eventful 2007, where he took the reigns from Darren Robinson halfway through.

Nixon knew that 2007 was going to be busy when awarded a benefit, but he could never imagined it was going to turn out as memorable as it did.

The reward for his outstanding performances in 2006, both behind the stumps and with the bat, was an England call-up for the Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia and his part in that triumph led to him going to the World Cup.

Now in his second spell with Leicestershire, he helped the Club to win the Championship twice in his initial period at Grace Road and more recently played a key role in the club's two Twenty20 Cup triumphs.

Still going strong, Nixon recently made his 1,000th run in Twenty20 cricket for the club during the defeat at Nottinghamshire Outlaws. 15th September 2009 - Port Talbot Town C.C. has accepted the invitation to become members of the South Wales Premier Cricket League.

12th September 2009 - Ynysygerwn C.C. has accepted the invitation to become members of the South Wales Premier Cricket League.

4th September 2009 - Swansea C.C. has accepted the invitation to become members of the South Wales Premier Cricket League
